Time for another TBR and TBD! I love writing these and exploring the new books that are coming out. I do feel like by the end of the year I'll have this huge stack of books released in 2017 that I have yet to get to, but that's part of the fun I suppose! I do have plans to go through the books featured in these posts to see how they ended up. For now, here are the new releases that I'm adding to my TBR list for May, and one that is TBD.

TBR 1 | Theft By Finding: Diaries: Volume One | David Sedaris

Release date: May 30th, 2017

To be honest, I am not the world's biggest follower of David Sedaris. I read Naked and Holidays on Ice and can certainly understand his appeal, but he's never been an author that I clamor to read. That said, his latest release, Theft By Finding, has me intrigued. For the last 40 or so years, Sedaris has been keeping a record of gossip, things he overhears, secrets, and observations. I also love the title- theft by finding is when you find something and keep it without trying to find the object's rightful owner. This is part one of two, and I'm anxious to see how diaries of this kind can turn into a book. I expect that it will be a semi-autobiographical memoir that isn't too insular.

TBR 2 | Since We Fell | Dennis Lehane

Release date: May 9th, 2017

This book has been on my radar for a minute (thanks, Professional Book Nerds podcast!). Dennis Lehane wrote Mystic River and Shutter Island, both of which were turned into fantastic movies. I've never read the novels, but his credentials remind me of those of Noah Hawley (Fargo, After The Fall). Since We Fell is a psychological thriller written about the life of a woman who had a very public, on-air, nervous breakdown and has since become a shut in. She's been enjoying her life of relative obscurity until something happens that causes her to question everything. I know, the plot sounds familiar, but when these types of unreliable narrator meets mystery meets psychological thriller are done well, they are some of my favorites.

Bonus! I just checked my Book of the Month choices for May and this one is listed! I love it. Book of the Month club is one of my favorite indulgences. New Releases and hardcover books... my favorite. Plus, I think it's a reasonably affordable way to build your collection. TBD: Into The Water: A Novel | Paula Hawkins

Release date: May 2nd, 2017

I almost feel bad for this new release. Not only is it a sophomore book for Paula Hawkins, it has to follow up her other book, The Girl On the Train. I am so excited to get my hands on this one to see how it is! It's got a beautiful cover, but if I'm being honest I probably would not have added it to my list of not for that and Hawkins. In Into The Water, a single mother is found dead in the bottom of the river that runs through town. She is not the first woman to die in a similar way, but the story centers on her now parentless 15 year old girl who is forced to live with her aunt that she doesn't know. It sounds like the aunt had to come back to her hometown to take care of her niece, a place that she vowed to stay away from. I'm curious to see how this turns into the psychological thriller it's billed as. Book of the Month Club had this available for $10, so I hope to dive into it soon! Edited 5/26- I read Into The Water.... and my instincts were correct . I've read better thrillers this year and this was probably overrated. But that cover! Full review to come.
