Weekend Reads | Links I Love for Week 1 | 1.4.19

***These are the links I pulled for Week 2 Weekend Reads, but in writing this I forgot to save a copy and ended up writing over Week 1. Lesson learned.

Podcast recommendation of the week: this one came from Kate Olson @kate.olson.reads. Episode 664 of The Room of Requirement. It’s a lovely reminder of how much libraries mean to so many of us!

The art of the Instagram husband. I do wonder what the long term viability of “influencing” is, but if you can make Instagram your full time job have at it! Having the ability to work from anywhere with the person you love more than anyone in the world sounds pretty good to me.

You could read 200 books a year with the time you spend on social media in a year. I don’t know about this. I guess if you look at the raw statistics it could be true, but I’m a firm believer in you will do what you make time for. I spend a fair amount of time on social media and still managed to read just over 100 books last year. I’m sure I could have read more if I cut down on social media, but… I could do a lot of other things too. I’m getting a bit over the judgment on social media use.

Loved this interview with Glory Edim, founder of Well-Read Black Girl. This book is up next on my radar and I loved reading about what inspired her to create the space.

I absolutely loved this article by a gender non-confirming person about how to handle your kids when they stare at someone they perceive as different. Basically, if you’re uncomfortable when meeting a gender non-confirming person, your kids are likely to mirror your behavior.

I am the biggest fan of awards shows. I hardly ever watch movies and only sometimes watch TV, but these shows are irresistible for me. I guess i love seeing what celebrities are going to be wearing and talking about in their acceptance speeches. Here’s a Guide to 2019’s Biggest Award Shows! I personally love Sandra Oh and thought she and Andy Samberg did a great job. #dadjokes for the win!
