Ten Exciting New Releases for March 2019! | TBR and TBD

Yay- it’s March! February was the most February month ever and I’m happy to see it go. Those of you who don’t live in cold weather areas just don’t understand how demotivating it can be when it’s 30 degrees or colder for three months in a row. Here’s to warmer weather and new releases!

Here are 10 that I personally found to be the most exciting.

March

For Publication Date | March 5th, 2019:

A Woman is No Man | Etaf Rum | This was a Book of the Month exclusive so I really thought this has been out. It’s an #ownvoices debut about three generations of Palestinian women in modern day Brooklyn who are learning to balance family obligation, duty, and culture.

An American Summer: Love and Death in Chicago | Alex Kotlowitz | I couldn’t not put this one on my list- a journalist takes a look at gun violence in Chicago from the angle of specific members of the community who have been affected by it.

Before She Knew Him | Peter Swanson  | I’ve never read a Peter Swanson book but he’s a super popular author known for crafting exciting thrillers. Hen is an illustrator who is just learning how to manage her bipolar disorder when a triggering man moves next door. She’s sure she sees something in his home that gives up his connection to a missing boy- but she’s not sure how she can get people to believe her.

Call Me Evie | J. P. Pomare | This has a lot of promise- it’s a debut thriller about a woman who is being held captive who can’t remember much about her former life or how she got there. Her captor is telling her that she’s being kept there for her own good- she did something terrible and he’s trying to protect her. I’m expecting this one to be pretty dark, so be forewarned.

Daisy Jones and the Six | Taylor Jenkins Reid | I can’t believe this book is just coming out- I’ve been hearing about it for months. And with good reason- Taylor Jenkins Reid is a fantastic author and her story about the rise and fall of a massively popular 1970s band group sounds irresistible. Plus, there’s a Spotify playist to go along with it! March is new release catch up month for me and this is high on the list.

Queen Bey: A Celebration of Power and Creativity of Beyonce Knowles-Carter | Veronica Chambers | A collection of essays about Beyonce and her place in cultural history with submissions from actors, authors, and academics such as Luvvie Ajayi, Lena Waithe, Brittney Cooper, and Michael Eric Dyson.

For Publication Date | March 12th, 2019:

If, Then | Kate Hope Day | Literary fiction that looks at “what might have been.” Four neighbors begin to question everything when they start to have visions about their lives in parallel realities. A researcher on a brink of a breakthrough sees herself pregnant with another child, a environmental scientist becomes increasingly paranoid after seeing a natural disastor that threatens the safety of his family, a surgeon questions her marriage, and a woman in mourning begins to see visions of her dead mother. Sounds like this could be a good addition to the dreams and alternate realities trend for 2019!

The Trial of Lizzie Borden | Cara Robertson | This is a true story based on twenty years of research about the trial of Lizzie Borden. This is historical true crime book examines gender, society, and the enduring question… was Lizzie Borden guilty? (SO. EXCITED.)

Queenie | Candice Carty-Williams | Queenie Jenkins is a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in London who is going through a messy breakup. She’s soothing herself with all of the wrong things and is finding it harder and harder to fit herself in the box that society seems to want to put her in. The marketers are calling this Bridget Jones meets Americanah, but the synopsis is reminding me of a favorite of mine, All Grown Up. I got this as my Book of the Month pick!

My Lovely Wife | Samantha Downing | Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I always get semi annoyed when books are described as being X meets Y… yet the comparisons seem to be doing their job, because they tend to catch my attention. The couple central to this story are just like any other suburban couple- except these two have a penchant for covering up murders.
