Aug 11 Weekend Reads | Links I Love for Week 32 | 8.11.18

Internet rabbit holes are the best, aren't they? A lot of the time I get stuck in an internet hole and find myself reading click bait articles from Facebook- You'll Never Guess What This Child Star Looks Like Today!- but sometimes I really do run into some great things. In Weekend Reads, I wanted to share some of these links along with products, recommendations, and other ideas that aren't necessarily book related.

Are you listening to Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People yet? I feel like my fellow readers will really identify with the premise of the podcast and the way in which the host, Chris Gethard, is able to have an authentic, non-judgmental conversation with his callers. Start here to crack up and here if you want to feel all of the feels. (TW for cancer and sick kids on this episode).

This has got me in the mood to re-organize! I inventory my personal collection using Library Thing- they have a super easy to use app that allows you to scan the ISBN number from your book and add to a virtual shelf. It's fun to organize them by read/unread or keep track of various editions, if you're a book collector.

Speaking of home libraries- we recently bought a embosser that says "From the Library Of" with our names.... and needless to say I'm obsessed. Stamping all of our books with both of our names is a bigger commitment than any marriage license ;)

Have you ever come across blog income and traffic reports? I love reading about blog origin stories and seeing how things progress. This one from Punch of Yum is especially interesting to me- they share what they learned over the course of six years and why they're stopping those kinds of posts.

I used to think airplane reading had to be either breezy or a thriller. But on my latest plane ride I sped through half of Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. I picked it up because it has been on my list and he is going to be at a conference I'm also going to, and I could not put it down. It's eye opening, frustrating, engrossing, sad, oddly hopeful... but more than all, his compassion for all humans comes through. I'm loving it, and it's inspired me to think about ways I can give back. I'm thinking about donating some of my books to the Chicago Books to Women in Prison- these are some of the things that they're looking for. I'm sure if you look into your city they're doing something similar!

Finally, a Chicago is getting a gastropub, boozy bakery, and BOOKSTORE combo! I thought you'd never ask.
